About Flaming Jangle Studios

Flaming Jangle Studios is run by flakebelly - an artist and mixing engineer based in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. I mix music for artists who want their work to sound honest, emotional, and beautifully finished - whether that means high-end modern polish or vintage-inspired grit.

I’m offering affordable mixing & mastering services from my full home studio setup. I’ve been writing, performing & recording for over 20 years, and mixing my own music professionally for the past 5. Now I’m bringing that experience to other independent musicians who want to get their sound right - at a price that makes sense.

Audio Examples

Here are a few tracks I’ve mixed - ranging from raw acoustic to detailed, modern productions.
Everything you hear was mixed - and most were mastered - by me at Flaming Jangle Studios.

Mastering & Final Delivery Formats

In addition to mixing, I offer mastering services tailored for the final format – whether you're releasing digitally, on CD, or on vinyl.

Digital Masters – final WAVs optimised for streaming or download

CD Masters – Red Book–compliant DDP files, ready for duplication or replication (includes PQ sheet, CD-Text, ISRCs if provided)

Vinyl Pre-Masters – high-resolution WAVs (24-bit) with safe levels, mono low end, and dynamic range preserved; includes a cue sheet for your cutting engineer

While my main focus is on mixing, I do offer mastering as part of a complete package. For important or high-profile releases, I always recommend working with a dedicated mastering engineer. But if budget is tight or you’re after a consistent mix-to-master flow, I’m happy to provide a solid and reliable mastering service in-house.

Don’t have ISRCs or a UPC code yet? No problem. I can deliver your master now and embed codes later if needed – just let me know.

What I’ll Need From You

To get the best out of your track, here’s what I’ll need from you before I start mixing:

  • Individual audio tracks in the original recording format
Please send your files in the same sample rate and bit depth they were recorded in - 24-bit / 48kHz WAVs are ideal, but I’m happy to work with whatever your session was recorded at - just send the raw tracks in their original format.
Please avoid MP3s unless we’ve agreed to it in advance.

  • Clearly labelled audio tracks
Name each track so I know what’s what - e.g. kick.wav, lead vocals.wav, guitar left.wav, piano overdub.wav. Folders are fine. The clearer things are labelled, the smoother and faster the mix process will be.

  • Edit your tracks before sending (if you can)
Please cut out anything you don’t want in the final mix - like coughs, shuffling noises, clicks, or long gaps between takes.
If there are breaths between vocal lines or other noises you want to keep for vibe, that’s totally fine - just leave them in.
If you're not sure how to do this, don’t worry - I can help with editing. But if you're able to tidy things up a bit first, it really speeds up the process.

  • A rough mix (even if it’s very rough)
A quick bounce of how the track sounds in your session - no matter how messy - really helps me understand your feel, your intent, and what’s important in the song.
It also lets me hear how you’ve panned the elements, what you’ve pushed forward, and how you’re currently hearing the balance.
All of this speeds up the process and helps the final mix come together more smoothly and in line with your vision.

  • Reference tracks (if you have a sound or genre in mind)
If you’re aiming for a specific sound or genre, send me a song you like the production or tone of. That’s called a reference track, and it helps me understand the kind of space, energy, and mix balance you’re after - even if your own track is in a different style.

Not Sure How to Get Everything Ready?

No problem. If you’re new to this or unsure how to export your audio, just get in touch. I’ll guide you through the steps - or help sort it myself if needed. We’ll make it work.

The Process

Here’s how it works when you book a mix with Flaming Jangle Studios:

Step 1 – Reach Out

Send me an email letting me know you'd like a mix. Whether you're ready to go or just curious, I’ll reply promptly and answer any questions you have.

If you’re happy to move forward, I’ll send you:

  • A short client form to gather info about the song, artist name, release details, etc.

  • A brief info sheet explaining how everything works

  • An invoice for the mix

Step 2 – Payment

Once you’ve had a chance to look over the info pack and you're happy to go ahead, the next step is simply to pay the invoice I’ve already sent.

  • For singles, full payment is needed before I begin mixing

  • For EPs or multiple songs, we can do a 50% deposit upfront, with the rest paid later on

As soon as payment’s confirmed, you can send your files over and I’ll get started.
Nothing will be mixed or sent back until payment is received - but I’ll keep everything clear and easy along the way.

Step 3 – Send Your Files

After payment, you'll send me your:

  • Individual audio tracks (clearly labelled, in the original recording format)

  • A rough mix

  • Any notes or reference tracks if you have them

You can use Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive, or any other file-sharing method you prefer.
I’ll check everything when it comes in and let you know if anything's missing or needs editing.

Step 4 – Mixing & Mastering

Once I’ve received your files and everything’s good to go, I’ll get to work on your mix.

Turnaround is usually 3–5 working days for a single track. I’ll keep you updated along the way.

You’ll receive:

  • The first version of the mix for review

  • Three free rounds of revisions within 30 days

  • Once you approve the mix, I’ll apply a final mastering pass to bring everything up to release-ready level

  • Final delivery in all required formats: WAV, MP3, DDP - ready for streaming, download, CD or vinyl

If you'd prefer to master your track elsewhere, just let me know and I’ll send over an unmastered version instead.
